Welcome to the Whakatane Sportfishing Club
The Whakatane Sportfishing Club, located on Muriwai Drive by the Whakatane River, offers a blend of tradition and modern amenities. Enjoy our classic Rimu bar, a modern lounge, and the Anchorage Lounge Bar with stunning views of the river, Moutohora (Whale Island), and Whakaari (White Island).
Our bar is open daily from 11 am to close, with friendly staff to ensure a pleasant visit. We provide clean, accessible facilities, including showers and toilets, a Gaming Room, and Skippers Restaurant, which serves lunch and dinner daily.
Join our popular Club Nights featuring raffles and membership draws, and enjoy the biggest screen in town along with smaller TVs for sports. Our walls display an impressive collection of fish mounts, from a 1221lb Black Marlin to a 4.5lb Blue Cod.
Affiliated with the NZSFC and IGFA, we host a variety of fishing tournaments throughout the year, including the Whakatane One Base Tournament and the Annual Trout Tournament. Our weigh station and experienced team are ready to assist with your catch. Whether you’re a casual or avid angler, there’s something for everyone at the Whakatane Sportfishing Club.

Anchorage Lounge Bar
The Anchorage Lounge Bar overlooks the main downstairs bar and lounge area and opens up to the outside viewing and dining deck with unobstructed views of the river, Whale Island (Moutohora), and White Island (Whakaari), as well as the ocean beyond.
The bar is open daily from 11 am to close, and our warm, friendly, and efficient staff will make your visit to the club a pleasure.
Skippers Restaurant
Skippers Restaurant is open daily for fine lunch’s from 12noon – 2pm and evening meals from 6pm – 9pm. There is an a la carte menu with club and bar meals available to suit the needs of all visitors to our club.
